The 1st China Political & Economic Forum gathers key industry experts to discuss “Global Challenges & Opportunities”

April 19, 2012, Hong Kong – The Friends of Hong Kong Association and China Daily are pleased to jointly launch the 1st China Political & Economic Forum at the Grand Ballroom, Four Seasons Hotel, Hong Kong, today (April 19, 2012). The high-octane event gathers about 300 senior government officials and business and financial leaders from Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland.

Themed “Global Challenges & Opportunities”, the forum seeks to focus on how China can face and encounter challenges in the context of the major economic and political changes taking place across the globe, and also what its approaches and strategies should be to translate new opportunities into advantages.

The speakers will also discuss at length the current economic uncertainty besetting the US as well as the sovereign debt crisis in the EU and the resultant instability. Chan Wing Kee, Standing Committee Member of CPPCC and Chairman of Friends of Hong Kong Association said that against a backdrop of uncertainties in the global financial situation, the China Political & Economic Forum will bring together elites of financial and business community from Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland to explore the opportunities from the global challenges.

Two panel discussions will see speakers share their insightful takes on “the Global Financial Crisis especially in light of a debt-laden EU”, said Nellie Fong, Chairman of the China Political & Economic Forum Steering Committee and Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

China Daily looks forward “to sharing with the global community the insights and visions for a stronger future”, said Zhou Li, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of China Daily Asia Pacific.

The speakers will include Liu Mingkang, Former Chairman of China Banking Regulatory Commission, Professor Lawrence J. Lau, Chairman of CIC International (HK) Co., Limited, Lu Zhongyuan, Vice President of Development Research Center of the State Council, George Leung Siu Kay, Advisor of Asia Pacific (Strategy & Economics) HSBC, Li Jiange, Chairman of China International Capital Corporation, Shan Weijian, Group Chairman & CEO of PAG and Tse Kwok Leung, Head of Economics & Policy Research of Bank of China (HK) Ltd.
