"Changing Asia - New Normal" Photography Exhibition

Changing Asia - New Normal is a documentary photography project that aims to capture the changes in Asia over the last three years under the pandemic. Changing Asia announces a call for photography submissions with the theme New Normal. It is open to all photographers from Asia interested in submitting their works to participate on this important subject.

The project initially received more than 1,000 photos from 179 photographers. A total of 78 photos were selected for the exhibition series, from 18 countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Palestine, the Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. It was held in Bangkok on Nov 16, coinciding with Bangkok's hosting of a key meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies, which made a great success.

The photography captures life in the midst of COVID-19, including times of lockdown, vaccinations, masks, quarantine, and all the other aspects of life during the pandemic. Works also included photos documenting the changes in people’s everyday life, in their culture and heritage, in the way they live and learn, as well as to how international events were shaped. It is one of the most ambitious and comprehensive undertakings to date on the subject.

The exhibition in Hong Kong lasts from 8 to 11 December 2022.
